Dollar Tree Wreath

I love to have an excuse to decorate! So enjoying the change of seasons is a perfect reason to do it. I really wanted to have a little autumn color in my home. In looking around for a wreath I could not find one that I liked. So I thought I would just try to make one. While I was at it, I thought I would try to make it as affordably as possible 🙂

I went to Dollar Tree, (you guessed it, everything is a dollar! I think they save a lot of money by not having to put a price tag on anything, LOL!)

I bought a number of different types of small sprays with autumn color. I wanted to have different textures of leaves and different fall elements so the wreath would have a little variety but still have a cohesive look.

I also picked up some Vines with various fall foliage to help give the wreath dimension.
I put everything on the counter so I could see what I had. I bunched each grouping according to its style so I could grab them in the same order going around the wreath.
I did buy two things at Michael’s craft store. One of them was a twig wreath for five dollars.
The other was a large spray of berry branches for seven dollars. I cut the branches off with wirecutters so I could use them on the outside of the wreath. That means that it ended up at about a dollar a branch, (notice a continuing theme :)
I placed my first small spray on the wreath at about the 10 o’clock position. I pointed the leaves up and built the wreath counterclockwise. I secured the end of the vine to the wreath with floral wire, then wrapped the vine around the base of the spray on the wreath. This added a little fullness to the wreath on the sides.
Then I wrapped it with floral wire to make sure it was secure.
When I had done this all the way around the wreath I added the berry branches by simply sticking them into the wreath around the outside. I love it! :-) I tried it in the kitchen window to see if I wanted to hang it there. I like the way it adds the autumn colors to the room :-)
Then I hung it in the mudroom to see if I would like it there. I like the way it brightened up the mudroom too!

As much as I liked it both places, the kitchen won. I spend more time in the kitchen so it makes sense to have the color in there.

Isn’t it amazing how doing such a simple thing can give you such a feeling of accomplishment! I am inordinately proud of that wreath! Not only do I like it better than what I saw in the stores, but I like it more because I made it myself.

It really was not that difficult. If you decide to try it, let me know how it goes! I would love to see pictures 🙂
